We all are waiting for something or are expectant about something from the Lord in some or the other area of our life. In this devotion, I will be discussing about some of the key points that can help us in preparing for our breakthrough.
Before I discuss about the preparation of breakthrough, let us read what breakthrough means and how it looks like.
According to Merriam Webster dictionary; Breakthrough means an offensive military assault that penetrates and carries beyond a defensive line. It can also be defined as an act or instance of moving through or beyond an obstacle.
For me breakthrough looks like a seed that has started germinating after a long process of surrender in the soil, branch that has now started bearing fruit, a waste land blooming, streams of water flowing in the desert, breaking of walls that stand in middle or dividing of red sea.
We all are familiar with the story in the Bible and are amazed about the fact that one man prayed and there was no rain for years in the land and again he prayed, there was rain in the land. Yes, I am talking about Elijah. We read in Bible how God always fulfilled all that he promised. From the story found in the book of 1 Kings 18, we can learn the keys that can accelerate the process to receive your breakthrough.
This chapter starts with the word of Lord that came to Elijah. This word came with the command from the Lord (1 Kings 18:1,2). Elijah obey the word of Lord and by the end of the chapter we read that the word that came to Elijah from the Lord was manifested with release of greater glory and strength over Elijah (1 Kings 18:46). From the moment of receiving the word to its fulfillment, we read the process that took place. This process contains the keys to prepare for the breakthrough.
- Obedience
The moment Elijah receives the word from the Lord, God commanded him to go and present himself to Ahab. Without contending with the Lord or making any delays, Elijah obeys the voice of the Lord. If we read previous chapters, we can know how Jezebel was after Lord’s prophets and only Elijah was left there. Elijah had many reasons for contending and to disobey but he obeys Lord at one command instead of delaying the obedience.
While walking our daily life, sometimes it is really difficult to obey the voice of Lord at every step because of several reasons and our little understanding according to what our natural eyes see. Sometimes we delay the command of Lord because of excuses or fear. Delayed obedience is disobedience. May be today you are reading this and you have the vision from the Lord, a promise that God might be reminding you.
Let us ponder on these questions as we read this:
Was there anything that Lord commanded and you disobeyed because there was a fear or many other excuses?
Is there anything that God wants you to do about your promise?
Even as you read this and you have a conviction about it, say this prayer:
Dear Lord, I am sorry for all the excuses that I have made and for my disobedience. I repent Lord and help me Lord. Lord, put your word back in my heart and give me the strength to do what you want me to do. I don’t want to follow my own ways as my delight is found in doing your will. I ask for your grace and strength daddy. In Jesus Name, Amen
As we read further scriptures, it is mentioned that Elijah met Obadiah and asks him to tell to his master that Elijah has come to meet him. We read the conversation between both of them. There was a chance here for Elijah to escape but he did not allow anything to turn him back from obeying the Lord’s command.

May be you have never heard about this God who is good and faithful. Who hears the cry of his children and is loving father and now you want to give your life to him. Say this prayer : Dear Lord Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart and forgive my sins. I receive you as my savior who died and was resurrected for me. Come and do what you want to do in my life. I surrender my heart, mind, and soul to you. In Jesus name, Amen.

Amen.” (Heb. 13:20-21)
